Hybrid electric buses are driven by electric motors and are smaller than conventional internal combustion engines. To improve efficiency, battery-powered motors allow the internal combustion engine to operate at maximum efficiency. The main components of a hybrid drive system include an internal combustion engine (ICE), a generator, a battery pack, and an electric motor. Beside that, according to a study conducted by the Northeastern Advanced Automobile Alliance (NAVC), the diesel-electric hybrid bus has the energy efficiency and emission characteristics. The diesel hybrid car has 30% to 40% lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions than the conventional diesel car.
Diesel-electric hybrid bus is cost-effective. This is one of the lowest price sustainable transportation currently available to replace petroleum-based buses.
In addition, diesel-electric hybrid bus does not produce as much emissions and wastes that is harmful to Earth compare to normal buses.
